John Shepherd, mariner; born in Piddinghoe; on 14 Apr 1801 he was apprenticed for three years to Simpson Cooper of Newhaven, mariner, and he jumped ship on the Thames after three years and four months; he has a wife, Ann, and children John (10), Mary Ann (8), James (6), George (4), Edward (3) and Thomas (10 months)
