Description

Copy of agreement between Sir Francis Godolphin, Kt. and Thomas Penrose of Penrose Methley, esq. (21 November 1621. Society of Mines Royal leased to Sir Francis Godolphin and Thomas Penrose, all mines of gold, silver, copper, etc. belonging 'to their priviledge' in parishes of Sithney, Breage and Germoe. Sir F. G. and T. Penrose adventured cost in a silver vein in Penrose, Sithney, inheritance of Thomas Penrose. Agreement: Sir F. G. to manage the work and to dress the ores on the barton of Penrose. T. Penrose leased to Sir G. G. smelting house and stamps in Porthleven. Sir F. G. to pay T. P. 20s. for every ton of lead from Penrose Methley from 28 April 1622 to 28 April 1625. Sir F. G. agreed to smelt all ores at Porthleven and to pay yearly rent to Society of Mines Royal. Paper seal and signature of Sir F. G. Witd. Thomas St. Aubyn, Thos. Penhellick, W. Hawes. Lease dated 8 April 1623.'
