Gallantry Notes: MC: For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He was in charge of an advanced section of machine guns which was in danger of being cut off when the enemy broke through on both flanks. He succeeded in withdrawing his guns, fighting a rearguard action and remained at his post until the last gun was withdrawn. He then got in touch with the nearest infantry and so encouraged his gun teams by his splendid example that all the enemy attacks were beaten off. He showed splendid courage and coolness.;
