Arthur Strother Edwards was born 6/6/90 in West Derby, Liverpool the son of Richard Edwards who at the time of the War was living at 1 Grampian Rd., Edge Lane. He was educated at the Cathedral School Bristol. He originally served before the war for 5 years with 6 KLR (time expired) and re-enlisted in Liverpool on 3/9/14 as No 15492 in 17 KLR. At enlistment he was 24 years 89 days old, occupation clerk, height 5’ 5", weight 120lbs, eyes grey, hair brown CofE. His commission application is dated 20/8/14 and was gazetted 2nd Lieutenant 18/9/14 in 12 KLR. To Lieutenant 30/12/14. His Casualty Form for 12 KLR states that he embarked for France 24/7/15. Admitted 2 British Red Cross Hospital (influenza) 30/9/15. Admitted 2 London Casualty Clearing Station 28/9/15. Joined 20 Infantry Base Depot 27/10/15. Admitted 62 Field Ambulance (nasal obstruction) 29/1/16. Admitted 1 British Red Cross Hospital 29/1/16. Evacuated to England 4/2/16 (Calais/Dover) on the Hospital Ship Brighton. On 24/9/15 he was thrown by the concussion of a shell against a trench striking his nose. His nose subsequently became stuffy and became much worse when he was struck down with a bout of Trench Fever. Gazetted T/Captain 24/2/16. His septal cartilage was removed 9/2/16. He was granted leave 17/2/16 to 16/3/16. Whilst attd 15 KLR and stationed at Prees Hill Camp he was told to report to the Commander of the Machine Gun Training Centre at Grantham 27/3/16. Transferred to MGC 27/5/16 which was gazetted 7/8/16. He was reported to have been killed in action 2/5/18 and was described as MGC attd RAF. (Officers Papers - PRO)
