Description

This collection includes minutes, forms completed by Mr Panes, correspondence to him and information booklets produced by the Ministry of Agriculture. It also includes some Ordnance Survey maps marked up with acreages. The documents include information about procedures of the Ministry, the size of local holdings and the problem of food shortage during the war.

Administrative / biographical background

Mr Panes was the inspector of farms in the Cheltenham District for the Gloucestershire Agricultural Executive Committee during and after the Second World War. The Gloucestershire War Agricultural Executive Committee was wound up in 1947. The minutes of that Committee are held at the Public Record Office (reference MAF 80/810).
