Description (What the record is about)
-
Royal Institution MS
Gives details of loaded lead coil and comments on movement of the coils. Serious defect is distortion of the tube at the support. Chain supports must be developed to try to avoid the rigid hold. Simpler coil, swinging in gimbals with short chains instead of pivots, might be workable. Refers to promising further trials of single coil of 10 feet of pipe, expanding conically from weight to gimbal ring and contracting symmetrically up to fixed point in neck.
