House, carpenter's shop, warehouse and buildings built by John Cowper on two pieces of land on the East side of Abinger Place between 1818 and 1839; early title includes 1-2 Abinger Place, Milton House, 1-3 Milton Terrace; the last deed, a conveyance to the British Legion Club Lewes Ltd of 1933, is endorsed with a memorandum of surrender of Abinger House to the Postmaster General, retaining the land and outbuildings; there is then a gap in the title until a sale, evidenced only by the label on the deed-wallet, to Lewes Borough Council on 17 Feb 1972.
