Cautley church was built between 1845-1847 in accordance with the plans of the architect, William Butterfield. It served the inhabitants of Cautley and Dowbiggin who had previously had to go to Sedbergh church. Originally in the diocese of Ripon, later of Bradford, Cautley was united in a joint benefice with Sedbergh and Dowbiggin in 1974.
