Description

Account book of Thos. Webb(?): Sales and deliveries of cheese, barley, wheat, wool, vigorous sale of flax, sheep and cattle; named customers or clients at Warwick, etc. Cattle bought at Tamworth - number of single cows from variety of farmers. Purchase of clover seed, rye grass, grass seed, for sowing Sherborne Field. Sheep sent to be wintered in various places - 84 sheep sent to Mr. Mason of Woolverton 17 Sept. 1726. Vigorous trade in flax - sold to Mr. Caishmore of Kington flax (that is swingled) at 5s. 9d., per stone delivered, 125 stone, £34. 10s, (many similar entries). Purchase of oilcake and linseed cakes - bought of Mr. Mason of Stratford 15 tons of oilcakes at £1. 5s. per ton. Hops purchased of James Ross of Broomeyard Heref., 115 lbs. at £2. 10s. per hundred, £2. 16s. 8d. Cheese delivered to Mr. Wright at Warwick - 9½ cwt. at £1. 1s. 6d. per cwt., £10. 9s. 3d. Calves & sheep sent to be kept on Mr. Aylworth's turnips at Woolverston at 3d. each per week.

Memoranda re. money borrowed - of Mr. Edward Hallaway of London £500 at 4 per cent interest; also £200 from John Hallaway (22 April 1725). Number of similar entries re. loans. Children sent to Mr. Terry to school and tabling at £9 a year each "if they continue so long, if not, to pay so mutch by the week as it cometh to at the abovesaid rate." (14 June 1725). Account of sheep (284) at Woolston in 1726. Levy made for John Whitehead for catching moles in parish of Sherborn at 1s. per yardland - Mr. Webb assessed at 6s. 9¾d., highest assessment in parish (1726). Money in Mr. Wright's (exor.) hands £253. 12s. to pay Mrs. King's annuity (1718). Green Dragon bought of cousin Ingram for £150 (1725). Rents, wages, etc. With related papers.
