There has been a church in St Peter's parish since Saxon times and the original parish probably covered much of St Albans. The boundaries of the parish have shrunk over time and have been the cause of many disputes, some of which are detailed in the records. Very little remains of the fifeteenth century church, which has been rebuilt and altered many times.
