Administrative / biographical background

The church of Holy Trinity was built in 1838 to designs by Decimus Burton of London, architect. In 1847 Holy Trinity was constituted as a new district, taken out of the parish of Eastbourne St Mary. District chapelries were formed from Holy Trinity in 1867 (St Saviour), 1870 (St John Meads), 1881 (All Souls) and 1883 (St Anne). A chapel of ease, St Paul's in Burlington Place, which was constructed in 1873 and demolished in 1909, also served the parish.
