Also includes a copy deed of 1787 covering all property in Lewes belonging to the Crowhurst branch of the Pelham family (including Pelham House), a detailed valuation of work carried out in building Mountfield House, May 1863, contract copy of sale particular for the property (plan) for sale at auction by Southerden, Morris and Burtenshaw at the Star Hotel, 20 Aug of 1878, contract copy of sale particular (plans) for Cole's Hall and Chequers Farm in Mayfield, land at Blackboys in Framfield, Boreship Farm, Hellingly, marshland in Westham, Willingdon and Hooe, brookland in Southover and South Malling, 84 Malling Street, Lewes for sale at auction by Southerden, Morris and Burtenshaw at the Star Hotel, 19 Jun 1888, contract copy of sale particular (plans) for the property with four cottages, house and land near the railway station, Isfield, Oaklands in Ringmer and Isfield, Barcombe Mill Farm in Barcombe, Elm Villa, Ringmer, brookland in Southover, Woodbine Villa, South Malling for sale at auction by Herbert Morris and Son at the White Hart Hotel, 6 Jun 1893. In 1709 Thomas Earl of Thanet sold Southover Manor and the site of the dissolved monastery of St Pancras including the Mount (6a) and the Covent Garden (4a) and brookland called Dockwish (3a) to Nathaniel Trayton, gent on whose death in 1715 it passed to his son Edward. On his death in 1761 the property passed to his friend Samuel Durrant, gent. He then sold the Mount, Covent Garden and Dockwish to John Pelham in 1765. On his death it passed to his brother Henry Pelham of Crowhurst who then sold the Mount and Covent Garden or Paddock in 1787 to Thomas Pelham of Stanmer who became Earl of Chichester in 1801. On his death in 1826 it passed to trustees who sold the property, now with a building on, in 1831 to Benjamin Cooper Langford of Lewes, brewer, and John Langford, brewer. In 1847 John Langford mortgaged it to Edward Stanford of Slaugham and in 1856 it was sold to Misses Mary and Susan Shergold, now being described as two pieces of land with buildings thereon called the Mountfield and Dripping Pan and Convent (10a) abutting the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway and Ham Lane on the north and a droveway on the east. The Misses Shergold sold to William Fuller, builder in 1861, who built Mountfield House, which was then re-purchased by the Misses Shergold in 1863. Miss Mary then sold to George Molineux in 1878. He leased it to George Lenny in 1878 and after Molineux's death it passed to Miss Mildred Constance Molineux in 1893.
