Description (What the record is about)
-
Approaching the ruins of Mirjan Fort. A raised bund through the paddy fields. Thought to be the Musiris of the ancients. 7 miles from Tadri and between Rajamundrug and Kumpta. In 1772, when James Forbes (author of Oriental Memoirs) saw it, it was held by Hyder Ali Khaun, but was subsequently deprived of any military value by a detachment of General Mathew's army, though subsequently re-occupied by Tipu Sultan's troops. Mirjan occurs often enough in the records of the East India Company, whose ships, in the intervals of peace, called there for pepper.
