This NCO particularly distinguished himself during the BOURLON WOOD operations when his coolness and bravery were of inestimable value to his Section Officer. On one occasion, he led an ammuntion party through a heavy enemy barrage and undoubtedly saved the lives of two men who had been wounded, by carrying them under cover and attending to them"

MM: "He set a fine example of courage and remained at LE TRANSLOY on 23/3/1918 with the last gun of two sections, covering the withdrawal of the remainder.He carried the last gun out of action himself under very heavy shellfire having steadied his men and inflicted heaqvy losses on the advancing enemy before coming out of action";
