Custodial history (Describes where and how the record has been held from creation to transfer to The National Archives)
-
When transferred from NMGM to MRO in ?1987 this collection of records was given the reference M920WSB and described as the records of the Welsby family. A closer inspection of the records (and the accession register entry) showed them to be a more miscellaneous collection, with no immediate indication that these were Welsby family papers; provenance is difficult to ascertain because the records were purchased rather than deposited. However, the deeds (M920WSB/1) would certainly appear to be those of Welsby property, and given there is correspondence of the solicitors firm, Welsby Hills and Smallshaw, it is possible that records are in fact clients records from a solicitor's practice, thus accounting for their disparate nature.
Accessioned as DX301/CA1981-76.
