The following records were deposited in the Library as Diocesan Record Office in March 1997 by Rev. R.J. Horrocks.

Administrative / biographical background

St. Edmund's was consecrated on 20 December 1882, as St. Edmund, Alexandra Park, Whalley Range.

A District was assigned by Order in Council, 12 December 1883

(London Gazette, 18 December 1883), from the parish of St. Margaret's Whalley Range.

Part of this District was assigned to the new St. James, Moss Side, by Order in Council, 6 April 1889, (London Gazette, 12 April 1889).

In 1916 part was transferred to St. Crispin's Withington, by Order in Council, 21 March 1916 (London Gazette, 21 March).

The church of St. Edmund ceased to be used in 1983, but was not officially declared redundant until July 1995.

Services continue in St. Edmund's Hall.
