Affairs in Bushire

Despatch from the Foreign Department, Government of India, to theSecretary of State for India, No. 132 of 1870, dated 15 July 1870, containingenclosures dated 17-29 June 1870. The enclosures consist of copies ofcorrespondence relating to responses to a famine in and around Bushire[Bushehr], including:. Unrest in Bushire over food shortages, exacerbated by the town having been without a Governor for an extended period; A prohibition on the export of grain, and orders from the Government of Persia [Iran] for all stores of grain at Bushire to be sold to local authorities 'at a fair price'; Consideration of diverting wheat being exported from Busreh [Basra] to India; Measures to protect British subjects and property in Bushire; The primary correspondents are: the Political Resident in the Persian Gulf; the British Minister, Tehran; the Government of Bombay; and the Government of India.
