R/C/4/23/2-4, R/C/4/23/7-8 relate to parts of the estate of John Howell, granted on building leases in the 1860s: an abstract of title in R/C/4/23/4 covers the descent of this land from 1831.

Administrative / biographical background

Acquired by Eastbourne County Borough Council under the Eastbourne (Bourne Street Reconstruction) Compulsory Purchase Order 1947. The order was made under the Town and Country Planning Act 1944 to deal with extensive war damage in the area.
