Account of Thomas Freman and William Hale, Proctors of the Guild of the Holy Cross and the Blessed Mary the Virgin and St. John the Baptist, from Monday next after the Feast of the Translation of St. Thomas the Martyr, 27 Henry VI., to Monday next after the same Feast 28 Henry VI
The Account is rendered under the following headings
Arrears
[Rent of assize.]
Delivery of moneys. (For salaries, chief rents, &c.)
Necessary expenses. (Expenses incurred for victuals, &c., in the Guild Hall, on Monday next after the Feast of the Translation of St. Thomas the Martyr, 27 Henry VI., at the rendering of the Accounts; for bread, beer, meats, "onyons," &c. Also for victuals bought for the entertainment to John Hubande, John Hugford, Esquire, and the Aldermen and Proctors, at the conference between John Hubande and the Guild; for bread, beer, lamb, "flowre," bought for a venison pasty, &c.)
Necessary expenses. (Expenses in the Guild Hall in entertaining Thomas Middleton, Esquire, on Thursday next after the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. One of the items is 9d for ½lb. of pepper, "clowys, and masis, and safron" for the venison pasty are also mentioned.)
Repairs of the Houses. (Including other payments. Tallow candles bought for celebrating mass in winter time; 6d for two horses hired "supra equitar" apud Mikeltun" to bury William Jannys of Hudecote; "raftors" for "le scafold" at the Chapel, &c.)
Cravings of allowances. (Decays of rent, one of the items being of 4s for the tenement lately held by Sir William Bysshopiston, Knight, in Swynestrete; 5d for "ij sevis" bought for le masons; 3d for the obit (?) of Sir William Bysshopton, Knight, &c.)
Expenses of the Feast. (Payments for pigs, pullets, fuel, &c. The last item is of 5d for a "barow" bought for "le masons.")
In the total is a further allowance of 14d for horse bread, bought for the horses of John Huband
