Patient recommendation forms
These eight recommendation forms relate to persons who were unable to obtain medical or surgical assistance due to reasons of poverty or destitution and are signed by Governors of the Dispensary. However, cases of accident or emergency were admitted without a letter of recommendation. Although the recommendation forms are not complete some details of the physicians and surgeons at the Dispensary can be identified. In 1846 Dr MacIntyre (of 84 Harley Street) was on duty on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 1pm and Dr Roxburgh (of 38 Gloucester Place) was on duty on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at 1pm. In 1847 Dr Roxburgh was replaced by Dr Day of 3 Southwick Street, Hyde Park. The Physician Accoucheur was a Dr Heming.
