Description

Land situated in Rottingdean Hedge Furlong, North Laine abutting Montpelier Road [not to be confused with the current Montpelier Road on Clifton Hill] to the north. The land was formerly part of twelve pauls of land formerly Benjamin Masters', which was enfranchised by William Wakeford Attree on 7 August 1847. The conveyance Atree to Burgess, 21 May 1849, describes the entire plot prior to the selling of the smaller portion to William Shaw in October 1853. Further conveyances of Abraham Bird to Thomas Ashurst and Thomas Ashurst to John Henry Farr took place on 17 January 1867 and 17 April 1869 respectively.

Donated by Susan Thackeray (ACC 9701), 18 May 2007. The deeds were owned by Mrs Thackeray's late father, Raymond Charles Richardson (d1 Jan 1969) who worked in Brighton Town Hall for Brighton Corporation
