Mr. Prideaux' predecessors as Clerks to the Goldsmiths' Company were allowed to carry on a private practice as solicitors at Goldsmiths' Hall apart from their official duties as Clerks. These documents, mainly relating to the estates of the Williams family of Woolland, were part of a collection accumulated in the course of this private practice.
