The following notes give a brief explanation of the principle troubles with current Sapphire engine controls together with some indications of what is being, or could be done, to alleviate them. The chief criticism from pilots of the functioning of the system are: (a) 'negative creep', by which is implied the inability to operate at or near the limiting jet pipe temperature in full throttle climb, and (b) random variations in engine rpm which occur at full throttle or fixed part throttle, especially since we do not achieve consistency in this respect from one engine to another
