Highway Diversion and stopping-up
Q/RH/1/1-6 Writs 'ad quod damnum' and inquisitions as required by Act of 8-9 Wm. III, c.16 (1697) 1726-1779
Q/RH/2/1-280 Justices' orders under 13 George III, cap. 78 (1773) and later, under 55 George III, cap. 68 (1815) for the diversion or stopping-up of highways (including footpaths and bridleways) with relevant depositions, notices, etc., and, in most cases, with plans 1773-1835
Q/RH/2/281-1120 Justices' certificates, under the Highways Act, 1835, 5-6 William IV, cap. 50, with associated papers and plans, as above. Under this procedure Quarter Sessions make the order for diversion or stopping-up, after hearing objections. The procedure is still in use, although to a decreasing extent 1836 onwards
