30 horse power side lever boat engine for land, with 31½ inch cylinder, 3 foot stroke.Reverse plan of the engine and boilers and winding drum, longitudinal section of the engine house and cross-section of the boilers. Both sheets bear letter codes.
Original Portfolio or 'Book' No. 828. Catalogue of Old Engines p. 206.
For the Birmingham Canal. Ordered by Thomas Townshend and listed under his name in the List of Engines made at Soho and the Drawing Office Index. This engine was originally made in 1816 as a boat engine with bell cranks. It was fitted with side levers and converted to a land engine in 1825. It was sold to Townshend in 1828. It was sold to G. Townend & Bros. of Cullingworth in Yorkshire in 1833 and erected for them in 1834.
