Folio 681. Draft letter from the Local Government Board to Walter May Barton, Clerk to the Guardians of the Mitford and Launditch Poor Law Union, in reply to his letter of 9 November 1880 requesting their approval of the proposed appointment of an assistant to the matron of the workhouse of the Mitford and Launditch Poor Law Union. In reply they point out that under the General Order of August 19 1867, the Guardians are allowed to make appointments of this nature and to remunerate the persons so employed without the sanction of the Board.
