The Redevelopment Sub-Committee was appointed in September 1956 and consisted of seven members. It was formed to examine and report upon the detailed lay-out plans prepared by the City Surveyor from time to time for the redevelopment of the city's central areas. The initial redevelopment plans centred on Summer Lane, Gooch Street, Bath Row, Ladywood, Duddeston and Nechells, although these later expanded to encompass the whole of the inner city. In June 1960 the sub-committee was merged with the Town Planning Sub-Committee for five years (see BCC 1/AO/7). In June 1965, the sub-committee was re-constituted, forming the Redevelopment and Special Purpose Sub-Committee and it took on the functions of the Jewellery Quarter Sub-Committee (see BCC/1/AO/9), the Special Investigations Sub-Committee (see BCC/1/AO/15), and the Special Development Sub-Committee (see BCC/1/AO/17).
