Being a Lease from the CROWN to WALTER DOBLE of the site of the manor of Falmer; the Hall croft, 10 ac. pasture; the Southfeld, 12 ac. pasture; the Westlayne, 170 ac. arable enclosed; the Northlayne, 166 ac.; the Estlayne, 168 ac.; the Old Forge, 18 ac.; also pasture for 700 sheep on the "Sheep Courses" of Falmer, viz. 200 teggs in Newe Markett, 250 ewes in the Wyneherd and 250 wethers in Boroghmere Course; also Pasture for 50 oxen and 20 cows on the Ridge and Carnedors (?) parcel of the demesne lands of the lord of Falmer. Reservations: to the Crown all large timber trees &c. and manorial rights; to the tenants and farmers of the rectory of Palmer yearly the wheat grown on 1 ac. of land and the barley grown on 1 ac., to be mown, reaped and laid by the Lessee, to be delivered to the farmer of the rectory in satisfaction of the tithe of all grain growing on the premises, the said acres not to be of the worst neither of the best. Also reserving in the Northlaynes and Estlaynes pasture in the Grottons for the flocks of Palmer as accustomed. Term, 21 years; yearly rent £51 8s. 4d. A similar Lease dated 25 June, 16 Eliz. (1574) was surrendered and a fine of £51 8s. 4d. paid by the said Walter Doble. Seal gone
