Introduction
This church originated in 1812, when Mr George Sutton licensed his house as a place of worship for protestant dissenters. A chapel was opened on 5 July 1815. It was not until 1822 that the congregation was able to call its own pastor. In 1877 the chapel affiliated itself to the Congregational Church and became known as Wheathampstead Congregational Church. A new chapel was also opened on 22 May 1877 on Brewhouse Hill. [Copies of the deeds can be found in the Church Meeting Minutes of that date, see NR10/1/1].
In 1972 Wheathampstead Congregational Church became Wheathampstead United Reformed Church.
