Dobells Field was bought by John Hoper, a Lewes attorney, from David Bayford in 1788. Hoper began to sell plots off to builders in 1793; for plans of the fields and drafts of the deeds, including a draft of the release associated with this lease for a year, see HOP 29/1-21.
The draft release (HOP 29/3) makes it clear that the sale was for £84, and that Edward May, another Lewes builder, acted as trustee for Watts. In 1801 the plot to the west was sold off to May.
The deed formed part of the title of numbers 15-16 Little East Street, which were purchased by East Sussex County Council in connection with the proposed Lewes Relief Road in 1963 and 1964. For the deeds of the properties, see R/C 4/462-466; the release associated with this lease for a year is with those of 15 Little East Street (R/C 4/463). The properties, with the exception of the frontages, were sold to Lewes Borough Council on 23 November 1973 (LDC deed-wallet 187). The site is now occupied by housing forming the west side of Waterloo Place.
