The "Domesday books" were prepared by the Inspector of Taxes in accordance with the provisions of the Finance Act 1910. The information they provide includes the owner, occupier, situation, description and extent of each property valued. A rate summary and additions and alterations to entries may be found at the end of the volume or series of volumes for each parish or group of parishes.
The field books, which contain all the information provided by the Domesday books plus, in some instances, additional details descriptive of the premises, are held by the Public Record Office at Kew.
