Dorman Long & Co. Ltd. - General Managers Files - Bridge Contracts

This series of files were held at the Head Office of Dorman Long, Zetland Road, Middlesbrough. Most of the internal memos within the files passed between Head Office and the Bridge Departments located in Middlesbrough and London. The material varies widely from file to file, some containing a comprehensive range of documents while others may hold no more than a couple of memos. The subject matter also varies, with the different processes and issues encountered in bridge building and construction being discussed. These include the tendering for contracts and discussions over specifications, business related aspects of 'deal cutting' and the forming of relationships forming between companies, progress reports, site reports and completion notifications (including provisions for opening ceremonies). Not all the contracts noted within the series are ones that Dorman Long necessarily tendered/tendered successfully for.
