Books of Authority for the issue of pay and pensions, more commonly known as Establishment Books. A separate entry was made for each beneficiary, detailing the authority for the commencement and termination of pay, commencement of pension, leave entitlement periods, rate or rates of entitlement, and any information which might change the conditions or rates of entitlement.

This sub-series originally comprised 37 volumes. The volume originally numbered L/AG/9/7/31 was removed from the sub-series in the 1970s and renumbered as L/AG/30/17/2. At a later date the subsequent volumes were renumbered to remove the gap giving 36 volumes in the sub-series.

These were commenced in 1860, probably as part of the new system of accounting introduced in that year. The system seems to have been in operation until about 1891.
