Other Data: born 29/8/1893 Adelaide, Australia. Trade: Accountant. Father(Dec'd) - Station Owner. Address- c/o Bank of Adelaide, Leadenhall St, London. Attested 21/5/15 at Bishop's Stortford as 1102 1 King Edwards Horse. To France 18/11/1915. L/Cpl 16/4/1917. Home 21/9/17 - to Cadet School. Discharged to commission 26/3/18. Sent to MGC Training Centre, Grantham for training. Died of Bullet wound to the head 25/11/1918. Had reported sick 25/11/18 - was to go to hospital. Ambulance called but he could not be found. At 8am 26/11/1918 blood was seen to be oozing from a WC adjoining his hut - door broken open and Lt Sadleir found shot in the head inside. Cutting from Grantham Journal 30/11/18- " At Harrowby on Tuesday, 2Lt John Raymond Saleir, an Australian of the SOMLI att MGC fatally shot himself with a revolver. Mr T Norton held an inquest on Wednesday when medical evidence showed that the deceased had been suffering from influenza and had been mentally depressed for some time. A verdict of suicide during temp insanity was entered". Fiancee wrote War Office 12/1/1919 enquiring about a will and stating that she was Sadleir's fiancee and that he was the father of her little girl of three and a half years. Will found in favour of Kathleen Long, 91 Punt Rd, Windsor, Melbourne.;
