This Bayne was probably the son of Alexander Bayne of Rires (c1784-1737) who had been an advocate and jurist in Edinburgh, Scotland. He graduated MD from the University of Edinburgh in 1749 and practised as a physician in Perth, Scotland. He died in 1758 (not 1750 as stated in the original manuscripts catalogue).
