Local agreement files, printed national agreements and material relating to Engineering Employers' Federation and Confederation of Shipbuilding and Engineering Unions' national claims and the 1979 Engineers' Strike belonging to EEWMA, 1961-1988; records of the Birmingham, Wolverhampton and District Engineering Trades Employers' Association, 1897-1969 (MSS.265/B); the Shropshire Employers' Federation and the Shropshire Association of the Engineering and Allied Employers' National Federation, 1917-1950 (MSS.265/S); the Midland Employers' Federation and the National Employers' Federation, 1911-1918 (MSS.265/M); and the Iron Trades Employers' Association, 1883-1889 (MSS.265/I).

The archive does contain some records of the EEWMA, but these are unlisted. The bulk of the archive comprises the records of its predecessor organisations. These collections thus form part of MSS.265 and are accompanied by their own collection-level descriptions.

The material in this collection was deposited by the Engineering Employers' West Midlands Association between 1985 and 1995.

The collection has been weeded for duplicates.

Originally formed in 1897 as the local association of the Engineering Employers' Federation for Birmingham, Wolverhampton and district. Similar associations were to exist in the West Midlands region for Coventry, North Staffordshire and Shropshire. The Birmingham Association subsequently shed and then reacquired responsibility for EEF member firms in Wolverhampton and became known simply as the Birmingham and District Engineering Employers' Association. In 1962-3 the Shropshire local association was absorbed by Birmingham. The Birmingham and District Association was renamed the Engineering Employers' West Midlands Association (EEWMA) between February 1963 and February 1964. The Coventry and District Engineering Employers' Association was merged with the West Midlands Association in 1984. The West Midlands Association now forms the largest of the EEF's thirteen regional Associations, with over 1200 companies in its membership.
