Immediate source of acquisition

These papers were deposited by Lord Hazlerigg at the Leicestershire Record Office in the period 1957-69 (Accessions DE.303, DE.315, DE.439, DE.902, DE.965).

Administrative / biographical background

Nearly all of these records relate to the Hazlerigg family, who have lived at Noseley since the fifteenth century, and owned property in Leicestershire, Northamptonshire and Northumberland. Many of the older documents relate to Noseley chapel which was founded by the Martivall family in the thirteenth century and which, with the manor of Noseley, descended to the Hazlerigg family through the female line.

Publication note(s)

Most of these earlier Noseley records were described, and some transcribed, by Henry Hartopp in the Reports and Papers of the Associated Architectural and Archaeological Societies, Vols. 25 and 26, 1900-1901. Where this is the case, the reference number used by Hartopp has been given.
