Description

Assignment of lease from Philip Bernard of Lincolns Inn, co. Middlesex gent. to William Argent of the precinct of Blackfriars, London gent. of a messuage, lands and appurtenances, lands called Chetwyns and Mayles and other lands in Badsley Clinton formerly in the tenure of Ellis Birde and then of William Lyngham, which property was leased on 22 May 7 James I [1609] from Henry Ferrers of Badsley Clinton esq. at the direction of Walter Gifford esq. to Christopher Symons of Badsley gent. for the term of 21 years for the annual rent of £5, the said term to begin on the surrender of the said lands by Richard Scarlett and the said William Lyngham. The said Philip Bernard having received the right of the said Christopher Symons in the said property, and also having received £5 12s. from Simon Grover of Hampton-on-the-Hill clerk for the debt of the said Christopher Symons, and the said Simon Grover having paid £13 6s. 8d. to John Symons of Bremidgeham shoemaker, brother of the said Christopher for the use of the said Christopher if he were living, the said Philip at the request of the said Simon Grover and John Symons now assigned the said lease to the said William Argent. To hold for the remainder of the said term at the said rent.

Circular seal of red wax on tag. ¾ in. On a shield a chevron between three crowns surmounted with a seahorse for a crest, the whole within a beaded border.
