Sub-group of papers on electricity

This file contains four items: a rough draft of the "Preliminary Propositions" (HY/1/4): a continuation of Cavendish's paper "An attempt to explain Some of the Principle Phenomena of Electricity by Means of an Elastic Fluid" published in "Philosophical Transactions" 31 December 1771 Vol. 61 pp584-677; two drafts of propositions on coated plates; and loose pages of drafts and calculations.

The file is enclosed in a covering sheet with a note in the same handwriting as WH on HY/1/1 (William Snow Harris) stating "No [11 crossed out, replaced in pencil by 3] Further Mathematical Propositions & theories in Electricity This appears to be the preceeding rough draft of No 4 in many cases: the ? propositions ? repeated & revised in No 4". There are notes made in pencil at the top of the page "Draft of No 4 L3 to L22 P1 to P" and illegible pencil notes at the middle and bottom of the page "being of coated plates flat and mixed". There is also a "No 3" written in red pen.
