3 Roger Lanes of Maidstone, baker, on 28th August, 1598, stole 16s. 8d. in money from Nicholas Hunt.
[In margin, partially illegible] Appeared and submitted. Fine assessed at 12d. Paid in court and discharged.
4 Since Thomas Cotton and Thomas Fane, knights, and Thomas Wotton, esq., and other justices, at a session at Maidstone, on Tuesday after the close of Easter [9th April, 1583], in full court, according to the statute lately made and with the consent of the inhabitants of Aylesford ordered a weekly contribution of 6d. to be made for the relief of the poor prisoners in Maidstone Gaol, yet afterwards John Palmer of Aylesford, yeoman, and Stephen Smyth of Aylesford, yeoman, churchwardens of Aylesford, have not paid to [blank] constable of the ville of Aylesford and Rugmorhill, which ville and liberty have been from time immemorial in Aylesford parish, 26s. due for fifty two weeks at Michaelmas 1590.
5 Similarly against the said John Palmer and Stephen Smyth, churchwardens of Aylesford for non-payment of 26s. to [blank] constable of the ville of Aylesford and Rugmorhill due for one year to Michaelmas 1593.
6 Similarly against Richard Hartropp of Aylesford, yeoman, and Robert Tylden of Aylesford, yeoman, churchwardens of Aylesford for non-payment of 26s. to [blank] constable of the ville of Aylesford and Rugmorhill for one year to Michaelmas, 1596.
7 Similarly against John Arowe of Aylesford, yeoman, and Nicholas Manuser, of Aylesford, yeoman, churchwardens of Aylesford, for non-payment of 13s. to [blank] constable of the ville of Aylesford and Rugmorhill for half of one year to the feast of Michaelmas 1599.
8 Abell Cawsten, churchwarden of Ryarsh, for non-payment of 4s. 4d. to John Wood, constable of the hundred of Larkfield, for one half year to Michaelmas 1600.
9 William Willes and William Giles, churchwardens of Snodland, for non-payment of 6s. 6d. to John Wood, constable of the hundred of Larkfield for one half year to Michaelmas 1600.
10 William Moyse and Nicholas Beale, churchwardens of West Malling for non-payment of 13s. to Philip Gilbert and Thomas Bennett, constables of the ville of West Malling for one half year to Michaelmas 1600.

11 Christopher Eldridge, churchwarden of Bidborough for non-payment of 6s. 6d. to [blank] constable of the hundred of Waslingstone for one half year to Michaelmas 1600.
12 John Oates of Wrotham, husbandman, on 20th June, 1600, broke and entered into the mansion house of Nicholas Milles, junior, at Wrotham, and stole ten measures of barley, worth 20s., and two measures of oats, worth 20d., and Richard Skynner of Wrotham, husbandman and Edward Turner of Wrotham, weaver, knowing Joan Oates had committed the said crime and stolen the said corn, on 21st June, 1600, received it from John Oates and aided and abetted him.
13 John Oates for a similar offence committed on 23rd December, 1600, for stealing 18 measures of barley, worth 36s., from Nicholas Miller and Richard Skynner and Edward Turner for receiving, aiding and abetting on 24th December, 1600.
Orders at the Special Sessions.
1 As Frances Burrage, spinster, was about 25th March last retained by John Heath of Maidstone, innkeeper to serve him for one year, where she stayed until the middle of September, when he turned her out of his service without any justice's order, contrary to the statute, having discovered she had become pregnant by Ralfe Moppe in her master's house, and Frances is now staying with her father at Yalding. Moppe having disappeared, ordered that Frances shall be sent back to John Heath as his servant until the year of her covenant has finished and that an attachment shall be made out of the court against Ralfe Moope returnable at the next general quarter sessions to answer the aforesaid objections.
2 An attachment to be awarded against William Hasted alias Butcher, of Sutton Valence, butcher, to bring him to the House of Correction at Maidstone to be punished and compelled to work as he is a disorderly person.
