Abraham Cox, mariner; born at Sompting and aged 17 he was apprenticed to Henry Blaber the then owner of the coal brig Polly of London for four years. He served 1½ years with Captain Sutherland and Captain Nottingham, then on board the Prince Regent and Nancy packets under Captain Blaber between Brighton and Dieppe, and then on the brig Polly; at the end of four years he asked for his apprenticeship indenture but it had been lost; he has children Frances (9), John (7), Caroline (4) and Mary (2)
