Records deposited by Mr. L. Coppin, Southern Area Administrator, Cumbria Area Health Authority, on 8 May 1981, and Mrs. Briggs, Administrator, Roose Hospital, on 6 June 1985.

Administrative / biographical background

Separated from Ulverston Poor Law Union 1876; new workhouse opened 1880; later used as a military hospital. Renamed Roose Hospital and offered an extended range of services. Closed 1993
