Commentary on the Song of Songs, by Robertus de Tumbalena, or Robert de Tombelaine (fl. 1100). The commentary is ascribed here, as usual, to St. Gregory the Great. This manuscript was probably written in France. ff. i-ii. Blank flyleaves. f. iii verso. Presentation inscription (see Custodial History field). ff. 2r-111v. 'Prologus beati gregorii Super Canticum canticorum. Quia si ceco. longe a deo posito ... et corpus debemus. Qui viuit ... amen. Explicit expositio beati gregorii pape super canticum canticorum. Deo gracias'. ff. 112-113. Blank.

Given by Richard Hart to William Robert Sharpe in 1863. Inscription at f. iii verso: 'W. R. Sharpe e dono Ricardi Hart Anno Domini Mdccclxiii'. This is amended to show that Sharpe gave the manuscript to Sion College in 1893. William Robert Sharpe was Vicar of St. Chad, Haggerston, and President of Sion College in 1894. Transferred from Sion College to Lambeth Palace Library, 1996.

Leather binding, 156 x 110 mm., 18th century; rebacked. Paper leaves 150 x 102 mm. Written space 92 x 67 mm. 19 long lines. Collation of ff. 2-113: 1-3(12); 4-12(8); 13(4). Written in set hybrida and cursiva by two hands changing at f. 37v. Red initials, 2-line except on f. 1. Capital letters in the ink of the text are filled with yellow. Secundo folio 'exaltat'.
