IN 1802 A SMALL WORKS FOR THE MANUFACTURE OF BOLTS AND NUTS WAS ESTABLISHED IN DARLASTON.
THE BUSINESS WAS INHERITED BY F.W. COTTERILL, WHO BUILT THE NUCLEUS OF THE ATLAS WORKS IN 1870. IN 1892 MR. T.S. PEACOCK JOINED THE FIRM AS SECRETARY, BECOMING MANAGING DIRECTOR IN 1900.
IN 1919 THE WORKS WERE ACQUIRED BY GUEST, KEEN & NETTLEFOLDS LTD., WHO CLOSED DOWN THEIR BOLT WORKS AT SMETHWICK AND WEST BROMWICH AND CONCENTRATED MANUFACTURE AT ATLAS WORKS.
IN THE 1920'S FIVE OTHER BOLT AND NUT WORKS, VIZ, H ORTON & SONS LTD., ENOCH WILKES LTD., J. SIMPSON & CO. LTD., STANDARD BOLT & NUT LTD., AND JABEZ YARDLEY & CO. LTD., SITUATED NEAR THE ATLAS WORKS, WERE ACQUIRED AND GRADUALLY THE SIX WORKS WERE MERGED INTO ONE.
OVER THE YEARS THE COMPANY DEVELOPED CONSIDERABLY AND ESTABLISHED BASES ALL OVER BRITAIN.
IN 1979 THE MANAGEMENT DECIDED TO CLOSE THE ATLAS WORKS IN DARLASTON AND TO DEPOSIT THE FIRMS RECORDS WITH WALSALL ARCHIVES SERVICE.
