Immediate source of acquisition

The items in sections Par/16/1-4, 6, 7, 9, were deposited by the incumbent in October 1968, June 1972 and May 1980.

Par/16/12/2 was deposited by E. Wickens, esq., Steyning, in November 1970.

The items in sections Par/16/31, 44, 49, 51, 52 and 54, together with 12/1 were deposited by the parish council in May 1956 and June 1978

Administrative / biographical background

From 1897 the benefice has been held in plurality with the parish of Bramber and Botolphs, and the records were not always kept separately. Records for this parish therefore contain much material for Bramber and Botolphs. There are also isolated references to Steying in the registers
