Photographs and other illustrations of the Sheffield area, mainly dating from the late 19th century, but with some earlier prints and engravings.
The subjects include buildings, people, events and other aspects of social history. Important sub-collections include a photographic record of the aftermath of the Sheffield Flood of 1864, one of the greatest civilian disasters of the Victorian era, and the Air Raid Damage Survey, taken to record the damage sustained by the city in the Blitz attacks of December 1940. The collection is constantly growing to reflect the changing face of the city.
