Diana Monahan was a member of the Kirklees branch of the Association of Teachers and Lecturers. She was employed as a peripatetic teacher of the visually impaired but was mostly based at the Resourced Provision of Moor End High School, which she ran on behalf of the Kirklees Education Authority. She carried out the annual health and safety inspections of the school for many years. After the ATL representative retired from the school and no one else was initially prepared to take over that role, she distributed the union materials for the school. If there were problems between staff and management, she liaised with the union?s secretary and the regional official for Kirklees.
