George Matthey (1825-1913) was head of Johnson Matthey and Company, assayers and gold refiners, a member of Goldsmith's Company and a Fellow of the Royal Society. He worked for the French Government on the standard metre, and served as a juror at the trial of the pyx for 40 years. These are the papers accumulated by his solicitors, Prideaux and Sons, acting for Matthey's executors (Sir Walter Sherburne Prideaux, William Edward Gillett of Baileys, Shaw and Gillett and his wife Charlotte Ann Matthey) on the division of his estate following his death in 1913.
