Administrative / biographical background

The Estates and General Purposes Sub-Committee was appointed in February 1951, after the reorganisation of the Estates Committee. It took on the roles of both the former Finance and General Purpose Sub-Committee (BCC/1/AM/9) and the Estates Sub-Committee from the old Estates Committee (BCC/1/AM/14), whose duties were now to be transferred to the New Estates Committee. It was to consider and report on staff and accommodation, finance and the management, repair improvement and collection of rents of properties (other than in the redevelopment area) under the control of the main committee and any such specific matters assigned to it. A sub-sub-committee also reported to this sub-committee to consider the salaries and grades of senior officers in the Estates Department. The minutes are in the combined sub-committee minute volume BCC/1/AM/26/1/35.
