Arnold Brown is a comedian, actor, radio presenter.
The Arnold Brown Collection contains material relating to Arnold Brown's career in alternative comedy and stand-up comedy, from the 1980s to the present. The Collection includes promotional material (posters, flyers), audio-visual recordings (published and off-air recordings), press coverage (interviews and reviews), photographs (promotional and taken of live performances), as well as material relating to Arnold's work in television and radio.

Administrative / biographical background

Arnold Brown was born in Glasgow in 1936. Arnold Brown qualified as a chartered accountant prior to his work in comedy. In 1979 he performed at the opening night of The Comedy Store in Soho, London, and becamea full-time comedian in 1983. In 1987 he was the first comedian to win the Perrier Award at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, for his show Brown Blues, which also starred musicians Barb Jungr and Michael Parker. Arnold Brown became a member of The Comic Strip, a collective of performers also including Dawn French, Jennifer Saunders, Rik Mayall, Adrian Edmondson, Nigel Planer, Peter Richardson, and Alexei Sayle, in the 1980s. Arnold Brown has performed a number of solo shows, and in support (including supporting Frank Sinatra at the Ibrox in 1990), and has also appeared on television and radio, including 'Arnold Brown and Company' (BBC Radio 2), 'The Comedy Controller' (BBC Radio 7), 'The Young Ones' (BBC 2), and 'Hello Mum' (BBC 2).Arnold Brown, transferred to the University of Kent, May 2016
